National Assembly The correct answer is National Convention
In 1792 the French monarchy was abolished by the National Convention.
The National Convention was the governing body of France from the start of the revolution until the formation of the National Directory. They were originally made up of moderates, leftists, and rightists but that changed when Robespierre came into power. He led the reign of terror which removed most of the moderates and leftists from power and ended their lives. Following Robespierre's execution the Jacobins gained control of the National Convention and it became known as the Thermidorian Convention. It ruled very unwisely and is responsible for the great financial ruin that will later befall France during the reign of Napoleon. In 1794 they were replaced by the five man Directory, the Council of Ancients, and the Council of Five Hundred.
The National Convention held power during the first years of the Republic, after which executive power was held by the French Directory - a body of 5 Directors - from November 1795 to November 1799.
The French Revolution began in 1789. The traditional legislature of France before the Revolution was the Estates-General, although this body had not met in over 100 years.
The military policy that strengthened the French army under the National Convention was implemented by Lazare Carnot. He introduced several reforms, such as universal conscription, centralization of command, and mass mobilization, which greatly improved the organization and effectiveness of the French military during the French Revolution.
