Wikipedia says it peaked at about 36% of all factory workers in 1945. There is another source that says at about 35% in 1954. I think it stayed about the same after WW2 until foreign imports came back and a rise in American anti-union and anti-socialism activism as well as a movement of factories to states with worker freeloader policies. (Right-to-work means workers can freeload on union benefits without joining unions,)
