The Earth's crust is made of two basic kinds of rock: SiAl and SiMa (named after the most prevalent elements in them: silicon-aluminium and silicon-magnesium). SiAl rocks, like feldspar, are less dense than SiMa rocks (like basalt) and tend to "float" on them. The continents are mainly SiAl.

Asia is one continent on its own. There are no two continents which come together which make up the Asian continent. However, during the time the continents were all together, this was known as Pangaea.

Continents are not exclusively named with the letter A. The coincidence might be due to the fact that several continents, like Africa, Asia, and Australia, have names that happen to start with the letter A. The names of continents come from a variety of sources and languages.
