There was no victory for the ANZACs in Turkey. Sadly, the entire Gallipoli campaign was a failure for everyone but the Turks.
The ANZACs were on the winning side, so they did not lose the war. The attack on Gallipoli failed, but it was absolutely no fault of the ANZACs.
twice as many ANZACS died on the western front then Gallipoli, about 27 hours into the first battle against Germany they had already lost more soldiers than the entire time spent at Gallipoli. by the end of the war roughly 61,928 ANZACS had died.
Gallipoli, a military action of the First World War, saw for the first time the unification of Australian and New Zealand troops into a force that would come to be called the ANZAC (the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) brigades.
the battle stratergy was to distract the Turks and go round and land on the beach of turkey, but the Turks found out and waited on the cliffs waiting for them to arrive, which then brought the battle back to stalemate, once again! because no one was winning.
When the ANZACS landed at Gallipoli they were ambushed by Turkish troops as they were off the coast of Turkey. The landing occurred in the wrongji place - one mile too far north due to strong tides which were not taken into account. This meant the terrain was not at all favorable and steep exposed hillsides had to be climbed. The Turkish soldiers were already encamped in this area and simply shot many ANZACs down as they came ashore. No more ground was ever gained than what was occupied by the ANZAC troops on the first day.
not the anzacs
They were slaughtered as soon as they hit shore line by turks.
Hot. And, by the way, the fight was between the Anzacs and the Turks AT Gallipolli.
The evacuation from Gallipoli was carried out in complete secret, and the Turkish soldiers had absolutely no idea that the ANZACs had departed. This was quite different to the landing, when the Turks knew the ANZACs were coming, and were ready for them.
THE Turks
Uhm...I think by fighting back real hard... It wasn't only the Turkish soldiers that won, everyon Turk that wanted to fight for his/her country did. That's how they won at gallipolli. Probably couldn't have done it if it weren't for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who led the fight of the Turks against various European armies.
the anzacs wouldn't sleep somet
Your question is confused. ANZAC troops defintely saw action against the Ottoman Empire in the east at places like Gallipolli, but the term, the Eastern Front, refers to the War in the East in EUROPE, against the Russians by the Germans up til the Russian revolution & surrender in 1917. So, to conclude, ANZAC troops definitely saw action in the East, but NOT on the Eastern front. Hope this clears up your question.
