Roosevelt and Churchill allowed Stalin to dominate Eastern Europe after World War II primarily due to the strategic necessity of maintaining the alliance with the Soviet Union to defeat Nazi Germany. They believed that accommodating Stalin’s interests could help secure a stable post-war Europe and prevent future conflicts. Additionally, the realities of military strength on the ground, with Soviet forces occupying much of Eastern Europe, made it difficult for the Western Allies to challenge Stalin’s influence effectively. This decision ultimately laid the groundwork for the Cold War tensions that would follow.
Winston Churchill warned President Roosevelt not to trust Stalin and not to let him get to Berlin. Roosevelt did not listen to Churchill. It is doubtful Roosevelt could have stopped him from taking over the Eastern Bloc anyway. It would have been better for Europe if they had not been taken over by the Communists. There are still six countries which are communist countries. The United States had a real issue with communism which is how we ended up in Viet Nam and Korea in another bunch of wars. So I doubt the Cold War would have been prevented with the mindset of the American leaders.
These men in The Big Three - Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin - made plans for the end of Europe and what the future will have in store for the European countries.
Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met at the Yalta Conference in February 1945. During this meeting, they discussed plans for the postwar governance of Germany and strategies for rebuilding war-torn Europe. The conference aimed to establish a framework for peace and cooperation among the Allied powers in the aftermath of World War II.
The direct answer is two, Western and Eastern Europe as defined by the imposition of what Churchill coined for us as "The Iron Curtain". the free democratically based west vis-a-vis the U.S.S.R. and Soviet Bloc east.
In 1942, Churchill and Roosevelt agreed to launch operations around the periphery of the German empire because they believed that their forces were not yet prepared for a full-scale invasion of mainland Europe. This strategy aimed to weaken German defenses and gather resources while allowing Allied forces to gain experience and build strength. The decision was influenced by the need to relieve pressure on Soviet forces and to secure a foothold in Europe for future operations.
