Juan Sebastian de Elcano
Juan Sebastián Elcano (from Wikipedia) No idea if this is right, but I think so.
Juan Sebastián Elcano died on 1526-08-04.
Juan Sebastián Elcano's primary motivation was to complete Ferdinand Magellan's expedition to circumnavigate the globe after Magellan's death in 1521. Elcano sought to prove the feasibility of global navigation and to establish Spain's dominance in maritime trade. Additionally, he aimed to gain personal fame and fortune through his achievements, which would elevate his status and secure his legacy as a prominent explorer.
Magellan himself died in the Philippines in 1521, eighteen months before his around the world voyage was completed in 1522. Only one of his five ships, Victoria, completed the circumnavigation of the globe, with just 18 survivors of the 250 who started the journey. Magellan's successor as captain, the Spaniard Juan Sebastian Elcano, decided to continue to sail west after Magellan's death. The main record of the voyage is the journal was kept by the Italian scholar Antonio Pigafetta, who served as an assistant to both captains.
The last commander that survived was Juan Sebastian Elcano. He returned to Spain with the Victoria and the surviving members of the expedition.
Juan Sebastián Elcano
No nope it wasn't Columbus neither Magellan it was Juan Sebastian Elcano. Magellan didn't complete the circumnavigation because he died before the battle of Mactan in Pre colonial Philippines and Elcano continued the voyage back to Spain with Victoria (the only surviving ship of 5 from Magellan's expedition)
The first RECORDED circumnavigation of the world was reportly by Juan Sebastian Elcano, who had been sailing on the expedition with Ferdinand Magellan before Magellan was killed in the Philippines in 1521. It was achieved between 1519 and 1522.
