There were several reasons. First, Wegener's ideas were quite radical, and many scientists probably found the idea of continents moving absurd. Second, he lacked a plausible explanation for how the continents might move. Third, Wegener was a meteorologist, not a geologist, so most geologists would not be inclined to trust his judgement on matters of geology.
Alfred the Great became king in 871 to 899 (long long ago)
Alfred Wegener proposed the concept of Pangaea in 1912, suggesting that this supercontinent existed around 300 million years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. Therefore, based on that timeline, Pangaea would have existed approximately 300 million years ago from today.

46 Actually he was only 13 when he invented electronic TV, but as with most inventions it took many years before he could build a practical system using those ideas.
The official ribbon cutting ceremony of the twin towers was April 4, 1973, however, tenants were accepted into the North building in December 1970 (the same month that the topping-out ceremony was performed), and the South building in January 1972. So in terms of building completion itself, the North tower stood for 30 years and 10 months. The South tower stood for 28 years and 9 months. In terms of the official ribbon cutting ceremony, the towers stood for 27 years, 5 months.
2 500 years ago these ideas were too revolutionary, abstracts and strange.

@ his time plate tectonics was not theorized. they didnt know yet that continental and oceanic crust are seperate. it was thought that continents were drifting on water and moved some million years ago due to erosion, etc! hence the "continental drift theory"
he theorized about the continental drift and he also said that a pangaea formed 200 million years ago
Alfred Wegener is often credited as the founder of the theory of plate tectonics, although his ideas were not widely accepted until many years after his death in 1930. The theory was further developed and confirmed by scientists such as Arthur Holmes, Harry Hess, and Robert Dietz.
Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift, proposed in the early 20th century, became widely accepted in the 1960s after additional evidence supporting it was discovered, including seafloor spreading and the existence of magnetic striping on the ocean floor. This evidence provided a mechanism for how continents could move and led to the development of the theory of plate tectonics, which is now widely accepted in the scientific community.
The concept of Pangaea, a supercontinent that existed millions of years ago, was first proposed by Alfred Wegener in 1912. However, it was not widely accepted by the scientific community until the mid-20th century when supporting evidence from paleontology, geology, and plate tectonics emerged.
Although it seemed to make a lot of sense, there was no known proof of HOW the continents would drift. It wasn't until years later that we gained knowledge of plate tectonics, which bolstered Wegener's hypothesis.
The theory of evolution by natural selection was proposed by Charles Robert Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace in 1858. This is not the currently accepted theory as that was 157 years ago. Google The new synthesis, or the Neo-Darwinian synthesis for an update to the theory of evolution by natural selection.
