They were initially intending to kill the Cullens for creating an immortal child, and after accepting that Renesmee was a hybrid, decided to kill them because of the uncertainty of her future. But after the arrival of Nahuel, they had no other option but to concede to their being no threat and leave the Cullens in peace.
