Firestar never died as Fireheart, he is still alive and well as of the first book, The Fourth Apprentice of the third series, Omen of the Stars, with four of his nine lives left. No one knows how Firestar will lose his last life, but rumor has it that he will die sometime in the fourth series.

As a leader with nine lives, Firestar dies several times in the series, and is reborn with a new life from StarClan. So far, Firestar has lost five lives. One to Scourge, one to rats, a falling tree, and greencough. At the end of Long Shadows, Firestar has five lives. Victoria Holmes, editor of the series, has confirmed that Firestar will eventually loose all his nine lives, most likely at the end of the fourth series, Omen of the Stars.

Fireheart's sister Princess, offered one of her kits to him so that it could train to become a warrior. Fireheart ended up bringing Cloudkit (Later Cloudtail) into the clan :)

Fireheart's mother is Princess, a kittypet who lived in Twolegplace. She is also the mother of Firestar's littermates, Scourge and Socks.
The first series is from Fireheart's point of view, but the second, third, and fourth series are from younger cats' point of view (though we still do see Fireheart since he's still a ThunderClan cat).
