How does Ralph change in chapter 5 of Lord of the Flies?

He doesn't want to be in charge anymore because he feels like jack is always belittling his concerns. he is more aware of his hair and the dirt so he has become more civilized also he wants structure and order

Ralph's loyalties didn't change over the course of the book. He started off being a pleasant but rather distant boy who was slightly withdrawn. He essentially remained that way over the course of the book. On the surface he semed in control and capable, within he was plagued by doubts, homesick and had difficulty expressing himself. Piggy wanted to be his friend but Ralph, though generally polite, kept his distance. Simon seemed to hero worship him and Ralph tolerated and even liked the younger boy but he wasn't really his friend. Ralph himself was a little envious of Jack's casual authority. He would have liked Jack to have been his friend. Ralph's only real loyalty was to himself and his drive to get rescued and return home, to these things he remained loyal to the end.
