Because she's related to Spottedpelt and Gorseclaw of ThunderClan, whose mother is Birdflight. Birdflight's mate is Cloudstar, the former leader of SkyClan. Birdflight, Spottedpelt, and Gorseclaw, (then Spottedkit and Gorsekit,) came to ThunderClan on account of Kestrelflight, the former ThunderClan medicine cat, because Spottedkit and Gorsekit were to young to travel. They grew up in ThunderClan, although they were really SkyClan cats.

Spottedleaf is not necessarily half-SkyClan, though she does carry some SkyClan blood. At the time of SkyClan's banishment from the Clans a she-cat named Birdflight was offered a home in ThunderClan, since she could not make the journey to a new home with her newly born kits. Tragically, Birdflight's mate was Cloudstar, leader of SkyClan, and they were forced to separate. It is known that Birdflight's kits were named Gorseclaw and Spottedpelt, and that Spottedleaf and Tigerclaw bear them very accurate resemblance, implying they are are both descendants of Birdflight and Cloudstar.

However, Tigerclaw and Spottedleaf are not siblings, and we do not know the exact linage of their birth. This would mean that one of Spottedleaf's parents (either Adderfang or Swiftbreeze) is a distant relative of Spottedpelt or Gorseclaw.
