The Giver gave Jonas all of the memories, which contained experiences of the past world, emotions, and knowledge that had been taken away from the community. This enabled Jonas to understand the true depth of human experience and emotions.
The Giver does not wish to scare Jonas off or overwhelm him when Jonas starts receiving memories. This is mainly because his last successor failed and she requested release.
I'm only 13 so correct me if I'm wrong , but I think the reason that Lois Lowry called the book " The Giver" is because the old man who has all of the memories gives them to Jonas, making him the giver. The giver is an important character who teaches Jonas many things about life and gives him a lot of wisdom other than what is passed on though memories. He also helps Jonas escape with Gabe. all in all, my theory is that the author chose this title because of the significance this character has in the main character's (Jonas's) life.
Jonas feels the sunshine which is so nice and warm but the sun burns even harder on his skin and he wants it to stop. That is the first physical pain.
He feels much lighter. The Giver (former Receiver of Memory) holds so many memories. So many good, bad memories in all. With one memory dispersed from his soul, he feels much lighter. One less thing to hold in his brain.
Jonas is selected to inherit the position of "Receiver of Memory," the person who stores all the memories of the time before Sameness, in case they are ever needed to aid in decisions that others lack the experience to make. When Jonas meets the Giver, he is confused in many ways. The Giver is also able to break some rules, such as turning off the speaker and locking his door. As Jonas receives the memories from the previous receiver-the "Giver"-he discovers the power of knowledge.
The solider memory, snow sledding, a sunburn, the sun, snow, coldness, warmth colors (the rainbow), and various other ones.
Because the giver's strength was diminishing after the last failure with rosemary 10 years ago and he has been the receiver for way too many years, so carrying all the bad memories like warfare etc causes him pain.
The most significant difference between the Giver's dwelling in the Annex and Jonas' own dwelling is that the Giver has many, many more books than the three volumes the general population of the community is allowed to own.
he gave him memories of the past before all color was gone and he shared many memories not one special one the rainbow and war stood out most in my memory.
The old Receiver felt a sense of relief and lightness after transmitting a memory to Jonas. It was a cathartic experience for him, as memories carry a heavy burden and sharing them with Jonas allowed for some emotional release.
Jonas is the main character who is turning 12 years old soon. He lives with a mother and father and sister Lily. His parents are not his birth parents because in Jonas's community, rules are way different than in our society today. The book the Giver is a really good book with many twists and turns. Additional things about Jonas: He is precise in language, and has pale eyes.
After becoming the receiver of memories and the new giver, Jonas would be full of so many awful memories that he would be distracted from his loved ones. Also, he would have such wonderful memories, he would want to share them with his loved ones, which was not allowed.
