Well, I'd have to say for myself that the movie ruined it for me. Sharkboy was hot, though.
The book was well written, and I for one didn't think there was too less or too much dialogue. It was descriptive enough to give my this image that Edward was just this drop-dead gorgeous guy. He was courteous and his morals were in check. And yet in the movie, it wasn't really depicted as such. Just a pale piece of stone in the shape of a slightly-more-than-average good looking guy.
Bella was a strong character that was somewhat unafraid to face what she had to. She had no deep thoughts, though. Besides the depression she went through, it was always about what she wanted, which really was to become a vampire/to sex Edward up. In the movie, she's just a shy girl, albeit a little twitchy.
But, Jacob really stood out for me in the book. Maybe it's because it was really refreshing to read about a character as unique as him? He was someone that Bella could lean on for support, and at first seemed like the strong big brother type, but along the way turned into a reliable love interest, always looking out for her and doing what was best for the main character.
the waging war that went on about the 'Team Edward' and the 'Team Jacob' was understandable; people are attracted to the strong, mysterious, silent type, as well as they want a dependable guy that will do anything just to keep you safe.
Maybe I'm on 'Team Jacob'? ;)
In conclusion, I really do believe that not everyone could imagine the same exact looks and personalities to fit with each individual character. So even the though the movie might have deflated for spirit put into the books and the restless waiting for it to be exactly what we pictured it to be; I think we all should support the book and stop our trollin'.
