Not that many. This is mainly just a stereotype! Most schools have police officers at the prom, so that took care of the problem. Of course, what happen after the prom is another matter...
In the book Charlie calls edward before prom telling him that Tyler is at Bellas house picking her up for the prom. In the movie no one calls Edward.
