The last Receiver of Memory-in-training was "lost", or released.

The previous Receiver of Memory, known as the Giver, passed on the memories and knowledge to Jonas before choosing to leave the community and give those memories back to the people. Jonas then became the new Receiver of Memory.
The Receiver of Memory holds all the memories of the community and acts as a source of wisdom for the community's leaders. In a different culture, the Receiver of Memory might be considered a historian, sage, or oracle.
In "The Giver," the children are selected for the role of Receiver of Memory, not Twelve. They are chosen by the elders based on their personality traits, aptitude for intelligence, integrity, and ability to see beyond what is immediately apparent. The selection process is secretive, and the chosen child is then trained by the current Receiver of Memory.
Jonas has been selected to be the new Receiver of Memory from page 59-60 in the book.
old receiver feel tried because he was giving his memory to jonas<<<i think>>>>
In Jonas's memory, the snow disappeared after he passed through the Giver's threshold. This represents how the memories were removed from the collective consciousness of society and kept only by the Giver and the Receiver.

because the person who gives Jonas the memories used to be the receiver of memory but since Jonas is the new receiver of memory, the old receiver of memory calls himself the giver because he GIVES the memories
