Sally and Katherine are basically assumed as dead
Jerome Skinner is the guy who moved in very recently in the text. He lives near the forest and is partially responsible of finding out David and his group's ability of telepathy. He followed Sally and Katherine in the text to the edge of the forest when Petra sent out the message. He became suspicious of the reason why Sally and Katherine were in such a hurry. S & K explained that they were here to rescue a friend (Petra) and came here when they heard her scream. What made Skinner even more suspicious as he was riding right behind them and heard no scream. He then suspeect them as spies from the Fringes but David denied that. The group managed to got away safely. This was the only time Skinner was mentioned in The Chrysalids.
In John Wyndham's novel "The Chrysalids," the names of the nine telepaths are Michael, Rachel, Anne, Sally, Katherine, Mark, Petra, and David. The missing telepath is named Sally. These telepaths possess the ability to communicate with each other telepathically in a post-apocalyptic world where mutations are feared and persecuted.
In the beginning of the book, David says how him and a group of people are all telepaths. Rachel is one of the telepaths. the other telepaths are; -David -Rosalind -Michael -Sally -Katherine -Anne -Mark and later on in the book David finds out that Petra (his little sister) is also a telepath. Hope this helped in some way..=)
