Ralph says "Like icing, on a pink cake." In reference to seeing white sea birds nesting on a pink block of rock, which was 'sitting out in the lagoon.' This occured when Ralph went on an expedition to climb the mountain with Jack and Simon in chapter 1: The Sound of the Shell. The reference is near the bottom of page 27 in my edition of the book.

It was homage to the beast and this, being the Lord of the Flies later, is related to the devil. Lord of the flies in Hebrew has a similar name to Beelzebub, which is the devil. It signifies that the devil is all part of us, when he says he is part of them to Simon during one of his seizures.
