Fireheart tries to find out what really happened during Retail's death by going back to Ravenpaw at Barley's farm.

Graystripe is still in love with Silverstream and she is pregnant with his kits.

Fireheart is still facing battles with Tigerclaw.

Cloudkit is as disobedient as ever.

Fireheart startes to think that Cinderpaw's accident was supposed to be a trap for Bluestar by Tigerclaw.

RiverClan is forced out of their territory because of lack of prey.

The Clan finds out that Graystripe has been meeting with Silverstream.

Bluestar reveals to Fireheart that Mistyfoot and Stonefur are her kits.

Tigerclaw corners Bluestar in her den and tries to kill her but Fireheart comes in and saves her.

Tigerclaw is exiled fom ThunderClan.

Yellowfang kills Brokentail with deathberries for the sake of the Clan and her.

Fireheart becomes deputy.

Fireheart begins to think that Bluestar's leadership is ebbing away.

Graystripe and Silverstream's kits were born, Silverstream dies, and he goes to live with them in RiverClan because he doesn't feel trusted in ThunderClan

Basically, chapter 1 is about Rusty finally going into the woods, after longing to do it after a long time.

On his trek Into the Woods he is attacked by a cat. He tries to outrun him but he realizes it is no use. He turns and faces his opponent. The other cat is caught by surprise and is knocked back, with all signs of hostility gone.

He says his name is Graypaw. He talks to Rusty about life in the 4 Clans. He smells his leader and Lionheart, a clan cat, and he tells Rusty to go but it is too late. They catch him.

The leader, Bluestar, tells Rusty that she often sees him sitting on his fence looking into the woods. He says that he just came to taste a mouse then he'll be on his way. Bluestar says that her clan needs the food and that "He threatens their existence by taking their food." Then he wonders if they're "gonna finish what Graypaw started".
