In chapter 10 of Twilight, "Interrogations", Edward picks up Bella for school. They are on the way to school and Edward wants to know what Bella's thinking about but she won't tell him. As Edward and Bella are walking to class they see Jessica and Edward is reading her mind. She is about to bombard Bella with questions for example, were Bella and Edward dating? When Bella and Jessica are talking about Edward Bella admits that she thinks she likes Edward more than Edward likes her. Edward finds out that she thinks that from reading Jessica's mind and tries to convince her that that is not true. They continue to talk at lunch about taking a trip to escape the dance at school. Edward mentions taking her somewhere sunny so she can see what vampires look like in the sunlight.
