Chapter two reveals a few qualities of Piggy. The reader can see that he is a "whiner:" when the boys won't listen to him, he quickly begins to whine about their situation.
Piggy has no leadership qualities, which is why he wasn't even considered as a possible leader during the election. He is apparently reasonably intelligent but to offset this he has an inflated opinion of his own intelligence and isn't prepared to accept that other people might have a clearer understanding of something than he has. Piggy is also fat, asthmatic and wears thick glasses, he is lazy and tries to avoid anything which involves physical exertion. Piggy talks like an adult, which only serves to alienate him from most of the other boys, who view him as pompous, fat and an oddball. None of these are qualities that recommend him to the other boys as a leader.

To quote directly from the book... "He looked critically at Ralph's golden body and then down at his own clothes." Eventually Piggy takes off his wind-breaker and a lttle later, when Ralph was swimming in the pool Piggy sat on the rocky ledge and "watched Ralph's green and white body enviously." I suppose that the impression that you can gain from these quotes is that Piggy was not shocked by Ralphs nakedness but was perhaps made aware of his own short comings when compared to Ralph.
Piggy is portrayed as more clever in "Lord of the Flies" as he uses his intellect and rational thinking to problem-solve, while Ralph relies more on his leadership skills and physical prowess. Piggy's intelligence and critical thinking skills make him an important advisor to Ralph throughout the story.
