The Chronicles of Narnia were not inspired by any tragic event in CS Lewis's life. They were written long before his wife died of cancer. Admittedly, his mother died of cancer when CS Lewis was just ten years old, but this did not have any impact on the nature and structure of the stories of Narnia.
