anything like twilight is good always has been the best type of clincher. Hope that helped in some way, and good luck!----

Okay, different person writing underneath, here. I have to say that that was a spectacularly bad job at answering that question. The questioner has already stated that he/she wants to do something like Twilight. I could do the sarcasm thing and go into detail about what makes Twilight so bad, but I know that's not what you're after. What you want to write is a romance with a twist. You need to include themes of choice, love, and preferably something unexpected that pops up. And, for the teens, preferably a hot bad boy. Both Edward and Jacob were bad boys in their own ways.

However, for goodness' sake, I beg you not to use purple prose or bad grammar. Show someone's character traits through the use of action and dialogue rather than tell the reader straight out.

Do that, take your time over it, develop your characters into people who aren't as flat as Twilight characters, and make sure your characters grow in some area of their lives throughout the book. Bella stayed the same, no matter what she was faced with. If you do this, I can guarantee that you'll have a better book than Twilight on your hands. As to whether or not it will make teenaged girls go crazy over it- that's pretty much out of your control. Only time, and whether or not it gets made into a movie, will tell. Actually, if the book isn't the same sort of thing that you think would make it as a movie, think again, maybe?

I read a rave review over Twilight the other day, and it proposed that the reason it hooked so many girls is because it is the age-old story of a guy who loves a girl so much that he doesn't want to *deflower* her, and she loves him so much that she does want him to. Which gives you something to think about.

But I don't think you want people to be addicted to your book in the same way that they are to Twilight. A lot of nasty things have happened, such as girls trampling other girls at book signings. And I hear that Rob Pattinson's eardrums will never be the same again.

Ok again different person! I've got to agree, the trick for teen novels is a love story with a good twist. The twist can be from any genre really, sci-fi, horror, mystery. They all work. Dont skip through details to get to the point. Teens and Twilight fans don't care so much about the grammar, but we are a sucker for some cheesy lines.

At the end, people need to be paired off; like if you do have a love triangle, make sure the person who didnt get the girl, gets his own girl. Girls like to have the lad as the protective character, as cliche as it is. But the girl character has to have some fight, it would be better if they werent as much as a pushover as Bella from Twilight. Make her shove him out a car or something.

Also don't make it too serious, add some light humor. That's what made Twilight great for me anyway.
