Self confidence is important when learning any language. You have to have enough confidence to go out there and try conversing with people and possibly making a fool of yourself but having the confidence to learn by your mistakes.

You can get higher confidence by involving yourself in something, such as a sport or hobby. Learning a new instrument, learning how to draw, playing a sport, volunteering or taking dance lessons are ways to improve your self confidence. I know this sounds stupid but, to gain self confidence you have to think about why you need confidence. You need to ask yourself why you are doing this activity. You have to realize that what others think of you isn't important, the important thing is what you think of yourself, and why you think this.
