1) Protecting the animals' natural habitat, from hunters and destruction, ect.
2) Protection laws, as in, making it illegal to harm or kill the species
3) Captive breeding programs, and release programs. Building up the population of the species in captivity, and then releasing individuals into the wild.
4) If there is a commercial value to the endangered species, allow the species to be private property for commercial gain. When something has a valid potential for commercial gain, capitalists will try to breed the species to make more so they can sell some. The buffalo meat industry is a good example.
Our game animals are a prime example. Hunters and fishermen pay to maintain and expand the population. Environmentalists do not pay to protect our wildlife. Only hunters and fisherman do. They pay 1.5 billion dollars a year in federal excise taxes (plus even more in license, tag and stamp fees) that goes to protect and manage our wildlife.
The nature lovers freeload off the taxed spending of hunters and fishermen.
