American akita vs Japanese akita

Even though they might look alike, specially when they are very young, there is a big difference between those two dog breeds.

1. The origins

A Japanese akita originates (as the name says) from Japan, while a huskies origins are Alaska and Siberia.

2. The personality

A Japanese akita was raised in Japan as a companion dog. It is often used as a police dog in Japan. Huskies were raised to be sled dogs and are still used for those purpouses.

These two different ''lifestiles'' made them develop different personalities.

The Japanese akita is more likely to become aggressive if not raised in the right inviroment. If the dog is engaged into the family life and treated as part of the family it will act as one as well. It shows a lot of compassion and love for a narrowed circle of people, while it shows frigidness to strangers.

The husky is very hardheaded and is harder to be trained.

It is more open to strangers though. A husky isn't really a guard dog, and loves to be part of the family as well. You can experience his desire for pulling when leading him on a leash, which is why it is important for you to start doing that when he is still a baby.

To both breeds you have to show very early who the boss is, because otherwise they won't take you seriously.

It's really easy to tell the difference apart of Japanese akita and American Akitas. (only for adults, but sometimes puppies)

Japanese akitas have only 3 colors, Red (that looks like brown), brindle (tiger pattern), and white.

Im not sure, but American Akitas have more than at least 5 colors. Like pinto, Etc.

Japanese Akitas DOESN'T have any "black masks" on their face. (it means the color black, isn't on their face. so u can see their eyes, nose and everything black on their face.) Anyway, American akitas have black masks. I do not like them because I cant see their face.

I have a pure bred, red Japanese akita. And I got him from a breeder.when he was a puppy, he had some black on his muzzle but then, when he got older it "vanished"
