I say sure, but only if the kids you are buying the Guinea Pig(s) for are gentle, and the animal itself has to be a gentle, non-biter one since if the kids are bitten, they could throw and hurt the creature or even kill it.

∙ 12y agoWell, I have two guinea pigs and they were my first pets. They are, (answering you question) very good first pets. They require looking after, but not constant looking after. All you have to do is make sure they're helthy, their nails don't get too long and they are fed. I won't go into little tiny details. U can find lot's of information about how to care for guinea pigs on the web and in books. But yeah, they are really good pets! And good first pets!!! :)
P.S: They come pretty cheap, so I'd buy two guinea pigs to keep each other company. That's if you don't mind spending quite a lot of time with it to prevent the guinea pig getting lonely.
