Best Answer

No crocodiles are NOT dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs and crocodiles are however both archosaurian reptiles.

Crocodiles are somtimes refered to as ''living dinosaurs''. This is based on the idea that their anatomy hasn't changed much over millions of years. It does not mean that they are members of the group dinosauria.

Modern day birds on the other hand ARE dinosaurs.

True crocodiles didn't evolve until the Cretaceous, which came after the Jurassic. However, there were relatives of crocodillians that lived in the Jurassic. Some that were quite similar in appearance and behavior to modern crocodillians included Eutrarosuchus and Goniopholis.

There were no alligators in the Jurassic, but there were phytosaurs, which were similar to modern alligators and crocodiles not only by how they looked, but also because they hunted like modern crocodillians.

No, alligators and crocodiles are reptiles. Dinosaurs are different in many ways; the most obvious being that their legs stick out below their bodies - reptiles' legs stick out to the side.

Are alligators related to dragons?

In a sense, yes. Alligators are related to dinosaurs, or rather, are the only surviving dinosaurs that did not "evolve." Birds are also surviving dinosaurs, but they evolved from the larger, reptilian types of dinos. Alligators, and crocodiles, just got smaller. I know what you are thinking, "How does that answer the question? It asks if alligators are related to dragons, not dinosaurs." In ancient times, people referred to dinosaurs as dragons. Dragons are also mentioned in the Bible to refer to dinosaurs.
