a herbivore eats plants only. Birds eat more than plants. They eat plants, insects, and they allo contribute to the decomposition by eating on dead organisms.
This depends entirely upon the species.

Some are carnivores, such as eagles, hawks, vultures and fish-eating birds such as kingfishers and kookaburras.

Some are purely herbivores, such as parrots, lorikeets and finches.

Many more are omnivores: Emus and crows, for instance, eat smaller animals as well as grains (bread) and vegetation; some of the smaller, nectar-eating birds also eat insects; water birds and waders eat both water animals and plant matter. All of these are examples of birds being omnivorous.

Small birds (sparrows) are most likely herbivore because they have small beaks for opening nuts, grain, small worms and other small pieces on the ground. Larger birds like eagles, large black birds, chickens, owls to name a few can catch and eat mice, small rodents, these are carnivore.

It depends on their species.

Some species are carnivores or meat eaters (vultures, owls).
Some are herbivores or vegetarian (cockatoos, parrots).
Some are omnivores or a mix of meat and vegetable eaters (ostriches , magpies).
Some are insectivorous or insect eaters (swifts, warblers).
Some are piscivorous or fish eaters (herons, penguins).

There are about 10,000 different species of birds. Some of them are omnivores. Some, such as eagles, are strict carnivores. On the other hand, some, such as ptarmigans are herbivorous.
