I believe they could survive here. even though the winters can be cold they usually don't last long enough and really do not get cold enough to kill them. some of the strip mines and swampy bodies of water connected to the river would be your more likely places though. there have been stories of gators being found in Ky. Tn. and southern Mo. so as for a gator being in so.IL it's not unthinkable
