Of course there are black flies in Alberta. I understand there are many kinds of black flies.
I just got a bite (the doctors believe it was a black fly) on my calf 3 days ago, my calf muscles became very swollen, red and hard. Then my ankle and foot became quite swollen as well. Spent the night in Emergency last night.
