No. It gums up their crop. Chicken's 'chew' their food in the necks - in an area known as the crop or gizzard. They eat small stones which sit in here, between the muscles, which grind up the food so they can digest it. Bread gums up their crop and makes digestion more difficult.

If you are feeding them commercial grains/MASH then it is best to feed them as per their regular routine and give them treats later in the day, this way you know they have had a balanced diet and met their daily nutritional needs. If you feed treats too early they will eat what is new and fill up on that.

If you want to treat them, give them lettuce, cabbage, apples, sweetcorn, mealworms - but NEVER bread. I know some chicken keepers do give bread, but it is bad for them - a bit like feeding McDonald's to a dog.
