All urine is amonia-based. If the urine smells different than usual, you may want to contact the vet's office just to discuss it. Is the dog 6 months or older and not spayed or neutered? If so, the dog could be marking to attract mates or show "ownership" of the area. Spaying/neutering would help if that is the case. If you are noticing the scent and it is unusual for the dog, it could be that, for some reason, the urine is more concentrated. That could be because the dog is dehydrated or has an underlying illness. Again, you might want to just call the vet and discuss it. They might be able to answer your question best over the phone and no visit required (free).
