Horses stay in stalls when it is too cold or wet or hot to be standing outside. Horses only get cold when it is windy. However horses should not be in the stall during very bad storms incase of a tornado or if the horse freaks out and kicks. Also some horses might get hurt or something is wrong with them and they might have to stay in a stall for a while.

∙ 14y agoMany people stall their horses and for many reasons. They may feel it's safer than having them outside with a small herd of other horses. Also, if people know their horse is inside on a cold night or snowy day they will feel better thinking that their horse is inside, all nice and warm. But the truth is, horses don't mind cold temperatures and even 40 degrees to them is nice. They would rather be outside in the elements (as long as they have some sort of shelter) with their buddies. Also, the owners of the farm may have to rotate pastures because they're so full so a person's horse might been in all day and out at night or the opposite. Some horses may be stalled because they have an injury and need lay up time. Also, if people own a stallion and the pasture is full of mares, they obviously can't put the stallion out there so he'd either have to go into a separate pasture or be stalled. There's many more reasons too. Just remember, if you stall a horse, make sure they get the proper care!

∙ 15y agoHow long do you mean? a day, sure but you need to remember these animals were made to run plain and simple. they will get restless, moody, weak,fat, they will develop mental issues because of boredom, and sleeping on their side in a stall is sometimes dangerous.
