Initially he can. Manure that comes after the twist will be eliminated like there is nothing wrong. But the manure that is before the twist has no way out. This is what causes the problem. If not remedied by emergency surgery the horse will most likely die within a matter of a day or two.
Yes, if surgery isn't done soon enought. I wish the answer was no, but this is very serious. It is like a person with a ruptured appendix. It has to be diagnosed before it can be fixed. Most local vets do not have the facilities for equine abdominal surgery and the horse must be trailered to a university vet school or a place that can deal with this problem. This all takes time and the horse could die before he makes it to the operating table. Even when the horse gets the medical help he needs the odds are not great that he will recover. Horses as a general rule do not do well under general anesthesia Some do make it which makes it worthwhile depending on the economic and emotional value of the horse. Many horses that survive the surgery can not return to a normal riding routine.
yes after time it will recover :)
I have never heard of a twisted gut, but I have heard of a twisted stomach. A twisted stomach occurs because of dietary problems.
'Twisted gut' is a term used when a horses intestines have moved inside them and twisted. this causes a lack of blood flow and stops the digestive process. A horse who has 'torsion' colic needs a equine veterinarian immediately as it can and will likely die without surgery.
The only bloat I've seen in pigs is actually a twisted gut, and there is no cure. The animal should be put down.
A very small amount on occation probably would not hurt a horse but it is always better to stick to treats that are healthier. Carrots, apples, pears, or commercial horse treats you can get at any feed store.
It's called BLOAT and it is the second leading killer of dogs, after cancer. It is a VERY serious health risk, yet most owners know nothing about it. It is more frequent in deep chested dogs such as German Shepherds, Great Danes and Dobermans.
When a horse has a twisted gut, its intestine is shut off and stops working. This is a medical emergency, and if the situation is not corrected quickly, the horse will die.
The horse will lay down and thrash around, they will also paw on the ground. If this is happening call your vet right away

The stomach is very delicate in young calves, the rumen has not fully developed if it does displace it abdomen (twist it's stomach) is very hard to cure. However, veterinarians may be able to perform a surgery for this injury.
sheep and horse
It probably means he has colic. You should immediatelycall the vet, and if he tries to roll, it is a good idea to walk him around so his gut will not get twisted. (Walking does NOT always work; merely a help.)
if you think it has worms for christ sake worm it why ask!
sounds like colic, which can be fatal. Get vet out to him/her immediately and try to keep horse walking and on his feet. lying down and rolling to relieve pain can cause a twisted gut
it depends on the horse.<3
cat gut stings are made from sheep, bull, and horse guts not cat guts. Early instruments were strung with gut.
Good question. Twin brothers, Robin and Maurice Gibb have both had this condition.
