The chuckawalla lizard is considered harmless in North America. It is a herbivore, eating plant material in the wild and in captivity. If picked up, they can bite, which may be painful, but not life threatening. They are not venomous and will generally run and hide if approached by humans.

When I got my baby bearded dragons they told me to use regular tap water but to add a couple drops of water conditioner to it. You can find it in the reptile section in a blue bottle. It takes the chemicals out of the water for the lizards.
