It has not been proven scientifically yet; as far as science knows we the humans are the only "animals" that cry for reasons of emotion. It could be that animals don't have emotions.
Another answer
Certain animals do have emotions, for instance; cats and dogs do get depressed and won't eat if say their master leave them in a kennel while on vacation or illness. Dogs get happy and wag their tails when they want to play etc. this is an emotion. Otherwise they wouldn't have any personality if they didn't have emotions.
a better questions is can we??? my 2 bichons are less than 3 yrs old, litter mates one month apart. They are never apart unless absolutely necessary. The smallest one Bentley is a very insecure dog and cannot stand to be apart from his brother Royce. He will cry and whine incessently until Royce is with him. This morning I took Royce to be neutered, bentley has already had surgery last year. Bentley cried and whined as I was leaving with Royce. When I cam back he had pooped on himself in his porter and was hysterical. I could swear he had been crying literally. His eyes were soaked and they were pooled up as I was trying to comfort him. Vet gave me a tranquilizer for him and he is resting now. CAN DOGS CRY FROM EMOTION LIKE HUMANS?
Some of them clearly do. I mean, it's hard to tell with a tapeworm. But certainly all mammals can express fear and anger at the very least.
Crocodiles are known to shed tears when eating large meals, not from emotion, but because near-choking causes them to produce tears. Other organisms that are capable of shedding tears are elephants and humans.
All dogs shed
Poodles do not shed, and neither do terriers
Yes. Reptiles like crocodiles have tear ducts. Usually, crocodiles only shed tears when their eyes are dry, as in when they've been out of the water for a long time. They don't really cry like people do, with tears running down their face.
well all dogs shed i belive
Shed tears, show emotion
Of course not!
Dogs do have tears they just aren't linked with emotion. But the eyes are perfectly capable of producing tears if they are infected, dry, or irritated. Emotionally when dogs are upset they whine and/or howl.

The idiom "crocodile tears" refers to insincere or fake displays of sadness or emotion. It comes from the myth that crocodiles shed tears while eating their prey, appearing to show remorse when in reality they are not genuine.
