shedding a little lightI don't have the complete answer, but I have seen roosters with shaved talons. I wonder if a file was used, I'm thinking a chain file? I also wonder if these talons have a blood supply like when you cut your dogs nails and cut too much, and they bleed?

More Info

Yes you can trim a roosters spurs. Trimming the spurs on a rooster can be done several ways.

Hand filing is a little tedious and can be difficult with a struggling rooster. Full grown spurs cannot/should not just be cut like you would with a dogs nails, they will bleed profusely and can actually bleed out a bird if done wrong.

Use a dremel tool or rotary grinder for quick trim jobs and file away only about 1/3 of the length to avoid blood loss. File flat so the spur is blunt.

The rock and twist method involved pliers. First move the spur back and forth until the spur breaks at the base, with a light grip then twist the hard spur releasing it from the inner core. You will be left with a soft inner core which may bleed a little.

I will give you a good link with pictures to get more information. See RELATED LINKS
