Hinalea is the name Hawaiians use for the family of fishes commonly known as wrasses. They are edible, but most Hawaiian locals avoid eating it as there are usually more favorable species available. In the TV series "Survivorman", while trapped on Frigate Island (near Grenada), survival expert Les Stroud catches, cooks and eats one, however he incorrectly identifies it as an "ocean perch". That being said, my understanding is that most hinalea contain ciguatera, so I would avoid eating it.
