Ideally no, the mother will fight with the females, and reproduce with the males. However, some breeds, such as the dwarf varieties can live in harmony with same gender relatives.
actually no. it will die Margret Johnson, bird/animal carer! pppppoo
When the female hamster gives birth, it is very important not to touch the nest or babies and avoid cleaning the cage for the first 3 weeks or else the female hamster could panic and kill the hamster babies. If it is really necessary to 'clean' a cage area while the mother hamster is nursing her babies, you should only use a small piece of tissue to 'clean' the cage but avoid touching the nest area. Provide additional bread soaked in milk in a small food bowl as this will provided extra proteins both for the mother and baby hamsters. The cage should be placed in a quiet room and away from noises, since noises can cause the mother hamster stress. The babies can be separated from the mother hamster when they are 4 weeks old since at that age they are sexually mature. In the case of dwarf hamsters, you can keep the female baby hamsters with the mother and separate the male baby hamsters and keep them in another cage to avoid mating. Never introduce the male baby hamsters to the father since he will not accept them and the babies will be afraid.
A hamster usually won't eat her babies unless if it is ill and/or dying. The mother may also eat her baby if anyone has touched it. If you touch a baby the mother will smell an un-natural scent and the first thing she'll think is 'danger'. A hamster.. in this case.. will either abandon the baby or eat it to keep her other babies safe. If you have a pregnant hamster; DO NOT pick up the babies when they are born (even though its hard to resist). It'd probably be best if you left the mother and her babies alone for a while. When you clean the cage, work around the mom. You don't want to disturb or distress her in any way.
Did you happen to hold the baby?!?! Your action might harm the babies and change its scent thus confuses the mother. She will think that they are not hers, abandon them and worst she might even eat the babies. If you did hold the baby the mother probably stoped feeding it which made it sick. === === === === * Separate the sick hamster from other hamsters if you are afraid that the sickness/disease could be contagious. * Clean up the cage and if possible sterilized all parts including toys, tubes, bottles and wheels. * All used bedding and unfinished foods should be discarded. * Keep the sick hamster in a quiet place away from any noisy environment to keep the hamster calm and prevent any further stress * Provide the sick hamster with enough water * In the mean time, monitor health condition of other hamsters for the same symptoms. I'm very sorry but there is probably nothing you can do to save him/her. Just make sure you don't make the same mistake with the other hamsters.
Well first of all there should not be mold in a hamsters cage. Try taking your hamster out of the cage and keep her/him in something else for a while. Scrub his/her cage really well, get hamster "cage clean" to get the stink out. Your hamster should be fine.
if she keeps the baby out of her house it probably means she doesn't want it. so you have to keep the baby in its own small cage and keep it warm cos if it stays in the cage with its mother the mother will eat it.
about four weeks but do not touch them till three weeks or else the mother wont keep it and may eat it
yes but if you bug the mom hamster it will eat the little one
you should keep it in a separate cage
it depends on what hamster you have, your supposed to leave them for at least a week, but i touched them the day they were born and the mother was fine, all you can do is leave the cage door open once you've placed the baby back and see the mothers reaction, keep a small wooden chewing stick handy to distract the mother if she tries to attack, if this happens remove the baby and go to the vets so they can help you keep the baby alive as you will have to feed it until its old enough for solids
Well, if you do, dont put it back in with mother keep it yourself to mother for because once the smell is passed on, the mother will kill!!!! BEWAREEE!!!! i warn you now!!!!!! ;) Ok darling x
My first baby that I ever had, did NOT have discharge. If your baby does, it is probably because your baby wipes are infected or you keep shoving your dirty hands up your baby's behind. Be a good mother, think about the children.
Baby ducks lay under the mother to keep worm.
Animals such as Hamsters and other creatures abandon their young for mostly one reason. It is in the opinion of the Mother Hamster that something is wrong with her baby. I could be physical or mental, but the likely hood of survival to her of the infant isn't good. By all means if you wish take the baby from the mother once you make sure there will be no bonding between them. Find out all you can how one can help feed and maintain a baby Hamster, that is if you are sure you wish to do this. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Yet keep in mind the baby may die at any rate, and don't blame yourself if this happens as we don't know it's true health condition, Good Luck.
get your pointer finger and your thumb and reach up its vaginal area until you feel the baby hamster . You cannot keep your mom hamster with its babys for a month
Yes, I concur.
Yes, you should keep any males out away from the babies.
