Actually, only some states will allow raccoons as pets, most not at all, & the ones that do require a special permit or rehabilitation license. Yes, there is a chance of rabies, as with most animals, & they are nocturnal, but they can be given rabies & distemper shots just like dogs & cats. Also, they can actually bond quite well with humans, but it takes time & work. They are a full time job even after they are tamed because they are so active & curious about everything. They will open cabinets, spill things, & "steal" things. They are also messy eaters. They can give you a lot of pleasure & love, but you have to be very dedicated to them as well. Just something to consider when making your decision.
