I read on a blog that someone used sand mixed with garden soil (not potting soil, and no added fertilizer). I don't know if that will help. My Chicken kick up anything and everything on the ground. I don't use dust baths because the chickens dig their own holes.

What are the little black bugs on chickens?

Most likely fleas. Hens get fleas and should be given an area with sand and gravel to take a "bath" in. There are plenty of flea powders available to add to the sand /bath area which will help kill off the fleas and not harm the chickens. Additionally, the chicken coop and roosting areas should be treated at the same time to ensure no re-infestation occurs.

Do hamsters take a bath?

You CANNOT give Dwarf Hamsters a bath. It can cause respiratory problems, and because of how small they are, they can die from them. What you CAN do though, is buy special Rodent Sand from a pet store. They love to dig and play in it, plus, you can get sand that smells good, if the reason you want to give your Dwarf Hamster a bath is because it smells bad (I know mine does). Make sure you get the SAND not the DUST.

Is it okay to bath a hamster?

NO, hamsters in the wild have never been known to install showers in their homes. On the serious side however. Hamsters are generally able to keep themselves clean and groomed and need only be washed in emergencies when they get particularly dirty or are in need of treatment for mites or something like that.

How do you make your own dust bath?

To make it you could just get some sand from the beach and pour the sand through a sifter so that you only get the small grains and not big chunks of sand or pebbles and such. Then use the sand as the bathing dust and put it into a container for your pet to bathe in. However, if you can't go to the beach, then just grind up a bunch of peanut shells or other types of nut shells and sift that sand too. Good luck!

What do you clean your hamster with?

Hamsters cannot be cleaned. They should NEVER be put under water unless it is a emergency (ex. They walk into and acidic fluid). You can provide then with a dust/sand bath. This will give them a fluffier coat that smells good. Syrian hamsters don't usually like dust baths, so it is better to get it for a dwarf hamster. There is a wide variety of hamster dust bath dust and Chinchilla Sand that can be used.

How is the sand replaced on beaches when hurricanes take it?

Sand can be replenished on beaches through processes like natural erosion or man-made beach nourishment projects. Hurricanes can erode sand from beaches, but it can be naturally replaced over time through currents and tides. In some cases, humans may also truck in new sand to restore beaches after a hurricane.

What types of dust do you use for your gerbils bath?

A gerbil dust bath is actually making use of chinchilla dust and sands, available at places like Petsmart and Petco. Pour a couple of inches of the sand into a bowl and place your gerbil in it. The gerbil should run and roll around, kicking up dust, making a mess, but getting clean. The fine dust captures dirt and grease that may be on their fur and leaves their coat shiny and smooth! It keeps their coat clean by removing grease and grub from it. Gerbils should always have a special place for digging in which helps to keep their fur nicely maintained. For a dust bath, use chinchilla bathing sand in a container. They will dig and roll around in it and it will keep their fur clean Please note that this is the only type of bath you should give your gerbils, as water will rinse off natural oils that insulate the gerbil and it could get sick or chill to death!
