yes they do, me and my friends went to oshitutia(how ever it is spelled) national forest. but we went to the part in Oklahoma side on September sep-18-09 and we were going to do the bear grillys thing surviving in the wild. well the trip started out great we went to the top of the mountain (hill) built a huge fort that was cameoed look like a huge a bush we went to lay down around 11:00 and Spiders were falling from the trees and coming from every direction thousands it did not bother us to bad through these hybrid spiders off of us until tarantulas were on my so called bed that was enough me and three buddies got up out of the thing and fought off spiders standing in one position for hours, yet then we noticed there were green things in the back of the camp and it was bright it was a stump that a beaver hand chewed off we cut a bunch of pieces off of it and threw them every were to light up our camp. now it was raining so it took us three hours to finally start a fire but by three o'clock it went out so we had now light until the tree stump after care full examine we look at other rotten trees that were wet and cut into the tree and found that they were glowing, this was amazing to us i have never heard about this let alone seen anything this amazing the glow never died down the whole night it was as bright glow sticks and the same color i have been doing research since i have been back. when we were in the woods are assumption was the algae or fungus or bacteria that was in the wood was causing the tree to glow. see some of the trees that we cut down would only be glowing on one side the north side were moss grows. so this stuff is amazing if you never seen it go on a rainy season and look for the signs of rotten or heavy bacteria growing to the answer of your question yes it could grow on any tree that this fungus or bacteria could grow on and from my research it will not lose it's glow until it dries out completely and as a witness it is very bright.
