No, every living thing does not have a heart. Plants are living things, and they do not have hearts. Animals, fish, insects, etc, will have a heart, or another organ that performs the same function.

Well, as far as anatomy goes, of coursel They have a heart that beats like any other mammal. I have always disagreed with people who say that they have no soul. I have four cats and they are all special to me, and I love them all. I just find it impossible to believe that they don't have a soul and heart. It is not possible for me to look any one of them in the face and think that they are soul less or heartless. --Kate J--

There are many organisms that do not have hearts, so for those organisms, the answer to your question is yes. For organisms such as mammals for instance, that do have a heart, the answer is no, they cannot live without a heart. In the case of mammals, the heart is what keeps the blood pumping throughout the body and without blood constantly being pumped to the various organs and extremities of the body, a mammal cannot continue to live.

Of course, plants don't have hearts, and microorganisms don't have hearts. Insects don't even always have hearts. Alot of life can exist without pumping blood.
