Horses 'natural' diets are anything but hay and bran. Hay and bran should only be used when the horses are not able to go and feed on living plants. Horses will eat hay and bran, but a more healthy diet consists of living plants.
Bran helps flush out a horses system to get rid of impurities. It is good for all horses, and will help sick horses (for instance, if you adopt a horse that has been previously abused, or you got a malnourished horse, you would give them warm bran mash to help them recover) hope this helps
Horses generally enjoy eating vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and turnips. It's important to introduce new vegetables slowly to prevent digestive issues, and to make sure they are offered in moderation as treats rather than a main part of their diet.
Muzzle?
No you can't because horses are grazing all the time throughout the day, and only eating small amounts at a time. So when you give them grass cuttings they are eating far much more grass as when they are grazing so their digestive system can't handle all the grass at one time, and it will most probably give them colic, and then they may die.
Apples, pears, bananas, carrots, watermelon, pitted dates, and most all other fruits. Hay cubes, oats, bran (etc), and alfafa cubes (made for horses). Sugar(s) and Molasses are favorites of the horses themselves, but give these to them in MODERATION. They can do a number on their teeth and should be fed lightly!

Wet bran mash works pretty good to clean a horse's gastrointestinal tract out. Actually, any source of fiber should work, but bran is easy to get in quantities sufficient to affect a horse. In addition to the above answer, it has been found just recently that bran mashes actually have no laxative effect to them at all. They do not provide enough fiber in the amounts that they are fed to clean out the digestive tract in any way, and they can cause a calcium to phosphorus imbalance if fed often. It is best to provide lots of hay and fresh clean water. if the horse seems constipated it would be best to call a equine vet.
Probably when they get tired, like all other horses.
