Rabbits mostly sleep during the day. They often sleep with their eyes open so its hard to tell when they are sleeping.
However, a giveaway is that when they are sleeping rabbits often twitch, and their noses stop wiggling.
Other rabbits will close their eyes and totally flake out, looking like they are dead. This can result in quite a fright!

∙ 13y agoNah. Open. If you notice your otherwiser healthy rabbit just kind of staring out into space with one ear perked up and one ear perked down--that's sleep mode. They do lie down for sleeping, though.
You can tell because it looks like they're half-paying attention with their eyes glazed over.

Yes, rabbits sleep with their eyes shut. I always assumed that rabbits slept with their eyes open but that was when I was just babysitting other people's rabbits. I have three now and they sleep with their eyes shut. The other night, one was on her back with her feet kicking with her eyes closed.

∙ 11y agoBunnies sleep with there eyes open so that their eyes are adjusted to the dark when they wake up. This is a very useful evolution feature because when their eyes are adjusted so they can see other sexy bunnies in the dark.

∙ 14y agoYes they do! But most are such light sleepers that they will wake as you aproach them. My bunny appears to sleep with its eyes open, but I think it is just day dreaming.
