∙ 14y agoPupils are just holes in your eyes, that restrict the amount of light the enters and hits the retina (this is also aided by the cornea). The reason they are black is that in the eye, there is nothing that reflects light back out of the eye (and nothing emits light). Hence, because the light that goes into the eye is absorbed and no light comes out, the retina seems black (when in fact it just lacks lights)

∙ 12y agoIf you mean the pupil, then it means that if the pupil widens the eye is trying to take in as much light as possible. In very bright light, the exact opposite happens.
