if your cat has NOT been spayed or neutered they could stay away for weeks at a time! Do not be surprised if your cat comes home pregnant or if he is a tom cat with parts of his ears missing and full of bites, this is what happens if cats are not spayed or neutered.
If your cat got out ( the spayed and neutered ones) because the door was left open he/she will find their way back within a couple of days, they will get hungry, and being smart the way they are, they will come home!!

When you return, they will suddenly remember that you have been gone for a while; but while they do seem to have some understanding of an absence that is longer than usual, they don't seem to note it while it is happening, and they don't seem to behave much differently after a two-day absence than after a week-long absence.
