For all of their lives, they will expect certain behavior from cats, and different behavior from humans, dogs, televisions, etc.

Visual recognition of themselves usually sets in around 9-12 weeks old. Before this age, kittens will play with their reflection in the mirror, because it moves and that interests them. The mirror game gets boring when they are no longer babies and realize that the other kitty is them.

Adult cats, if they are vain enough, will look in mirrors to admire themselves; of my four cats, one loves mirrors and will use them to help in grooming. When she has a spot on her face, she uses the mirror to help find it and to tell when it's gone.
