I believe so. I used to have this cat named Waffles, (he now lives next door with my aunt), and he's never been much of a people kitty. When ever the family would sit down to watch a movie in the living room you could look up the stairs and sure enough Waffles would be sitting on the top step, listening with his eyes focused on the screen...Even now, I have another cat named Jasmine. She doesn't come in the house often, but usually I'll leave the back door open when I'm practicing on the guitar, and she'll come in and sleep next to me on the bed, which is VERY rare. I don't know for sure, but from what I've seen they enjoy music and television like we do...I don't see why they shouldn't...yew know?
Actally, they do! My cat enjoys watching movies with lots of light and figures moving around the screen. He perches up atop the couch, behind where we sit and watches TV with us. We also find it rather funny when he runs to the screen and tries to hit the moving characters on it. Usually, the older the cat the more they like to sit in your lap and watch TV with you, but it all depends on the cat!
Many times I catch my both of my dogs watching or listening to TV. Actually last night our lab mix was responded to the whistling on a tv commercial by cocking her head and perking up her ears. Our older dog always growls or whines if we are watching a nature show with the sounds of wild animals
Cat's are afriad of: loose dogs, strange cats, loud noises or bangs, big animals and unsafeness, like a big open space with no place to hide or tree to climb into. Some cats can be afriad of strange things, such as a microwave, the television, or rain. Dealing with a cat's fear isn't easy, you have to link the fear with things it likes, such as treats, toys, food and catnip. Cats are often afraid of the vacuum, long electric cords (like snakes) and water. Although one cat who had a normal dislike of water, would chase a little running stream of water from the hose, trying to catch it and getting all wet in the process!
Yes, cats are self-aware. Even as very young kittens, before their eyes open, they know their mother and their siblings by smell, so they know that they're the same thing as them. For all of their lives, they will expect certain behavior from cats, and different behavior from humans, dogs, televisions, etc. Visual recognition of themselves usually sets in around 9-12 weeks old. Before this age, kittens will play with their reflection in the mirror, because it moves and that interests them. The mirror game gets boring when they are no longer babies and realize that the other kitty is them. Adult cats, if they are vain enough, will look in mirrors to admire themselves; of my four cats, one loves mirrors and will use them to help in grooming. When she has a spot on her face, she uses the mirror to help find it and to tell when it's gone.
Yes, they did according to a television show I watched on the discovery channel. I can't remember what it was called though.
