With any symptom in dogs, the first concern is duration - how long does it go on? That type of stool doesn't necessarilymean the dog is about to die, especially if it is otherwise healthy. All kinds of things can temporarily cause that kind of stool, and it's not a big cause for concern.
If it goes on more than 24 hours, a vet should see the dog, because infections can cause that kind of stool to persist. Antibiotics should clear things right up.
If the dog is old and death is imminent, abnormal stools like that are common.
